PRESS RELEASE October 26, 2023 (Plymouth, MA) – On Friday, October 20th, 2023 in Plymouth, MA, Mayflower Brewing Company released the 2023 Edition of their most anticipated annual beer, Thanksgiving Ale! For the first time ever, you can now have America’s only Thanksgiving Ale shipped directly to your doorstep or to loved ones near and far! Thanksgiving Ale is a full-bodied beer brewed with a rich array of barley and rye malts and is aged for several weeks on toasted oak. Brewed annually in Autumn since 2009, Thanksgiving Ale is an inspired blend of two brewing styles: American Strong Ale and English Old Ale. Aged on American white oak, this brew warms the soul with hints of caramel, vanilla and spicy nuts. The flavors of Thanksgiving Ale pair perfectly with the bountiful variety of foods we feast on throughout this season of harvest.

“In the early days of Mayflower Brewing Company, it seemed obvious that we should have a beer celebrating Thanksgiving.  At the time, there were seasonal beers and beers celebrating holidays like Christmas and St. Patrick’s day, but no beer for Thanksgiving.  We wanted the beer to reflect the combination of the pilgrims’ English heritage and the unique American nature of the Thanksgiving holiday.  So we designed the recipe to be a blend of an English Old Ale and an American Strong Ale, providing a rich and flavorful beer that works well with the broad array of Thanksgiving dinner flavors.  Fourteen years later, it remains the only Thanksgiving Ale in the world and the best beverage to celebrate the holiday with your family and friends,” reflects founder and President of Mayflower, Drew Brosseau.

The flavors of this brew can finally be enjoyed far and wide. Beer tasting notes nowadays often comment on hop profiles in particular, but due to the malt profile and toasted oak aging of Thanksgiving Ale, this beer stands out. In fact, Mayflower brewers recommend a delicious list of pairings to accompany this holiday treat, including candied yams, butternut squash with any candied nuts, and dishes with a smoked, grilled, or roasted crust such as turkey, roast beef, or prime rib. This beer also pairs well with stuffing with sausage and herbs, as well as pecan pie.

Mayflower customer, Jim McKenna, is particularly excited for this year’s release. He shares, “Fall is my favorite time of year. I look forward to the crisp air and the seasonal Marzen and Oktoberfest brews! Soon after is the most eagerly anticipated time of year for me, which is the annual Thanksgiving Ale release! I have enjoyed Thanksgiving Ale since the first days that I discovered craft beer and Mayflower Brewing. At my house we host Thanksgiving dinner each year and Thanksgiving Ale is the feature beverage! What could be better than turkey, football and Thanksgiving Ale! All American classics!”

Thanksgiving Ale is available in pints, flights, growler fills, four packs, and cases from the taproom. The beer is also heading out to locations throughout New England.
