PRESS RELEASE / October 8, 2024 (Framingham, MA) – From humble beginnings in a 6,000-square-foot warehouse on the south side of Framingham, Jack’s Abby Craft Lagers has grown into Massachusetts’ largest craft beer producer under the banner of the Hendler Family Brewing Company (HFB). Upon closing, HFB will employ 300 people, including the vast majority of Night Shift’s existing team. The company also includes a contract brewing arm, Jack’s Beverage Company, as well as the recently purchased Wormtown Brewery.
Founders and brothers Jack, Eric, and Sam Hendler are driven by a clear mission: to preserve and foster the growth of independent craft beer across the Commonwealth while maintaining a deep commitment to community and sustainability. The purchase of Night Shift Brewing Inc. solidifies HFB’s position as a key player in the New England craft beer scene, providing stability and sustainable growth for brewers and employees alike. With a projected annual production of 100,000 barrels in 2025—equivalent to 24 million pints or 1.4 million cases—HFB ranks among the top 30 craft breweries in the nation.

At the helm of the brew deck is Jack Hendler, a Siebel Institute and Doeman’s Academy graduate and the author of Modern Lager Beer, a book on techniques, processes, and recipes. Alongside a dedicated brew and quality control team, he works to maintain the high standards of craftsmanship that have made these breweries cherished by beer enthusiasts. The diverse array of products combined with the production house’s capacity allows HFB to meet growing demand while staying agile in a competitive market.

HFB is committed to maintaining Night Shift’s core lineup, including Whirlpool, Santilli, and Nite Lite. The taprooms at Boston’s Lovejoy Wharf and in Everett will continue to exclusively serve Night Shift products, along with its three Boston beer gardens located on the Esplanade, in Allston, and in Dewey Square. Additionally, the Level 99 locations and Encore Taproom, while not managed by Night Shift, will also remain in place.
