Proceeds from limited-edition “Summer Beer” and registration for the virtual race will benefit The Angel Fund for ALS research

PRESS RELEASE / March 18, 2021 (Boston, MA)  Harpoon Brewery is raising a glass to celebrate the 20th Annual 5-Miler Race, taking place virtually on Sunday, May 23, 2021. Registration is now open for the virtual race, which will allow an unlimited number of entrants from all over the country to run, walk, or cycle for a worthy cause: The Angel Fund.

The Angel Fund is an independent non-profit charity that supports ALS research at the Cecil B. Day Laboratory for Neuromuscular Research at UMass Medical School in Worcester. Harpoon has raised over $2.2 million for The Angel Fund in the last 19 years, but wants to help make this year’s fundraising impact even greater.

In addition to donating the proceeds from registration fees, Harpoon is also throwing it back to the first 5-Miler with a re-release of their classic Kölsch-style ale: Summer Beer. At 5.0% ABV, this limited-release beer offers crisp and lemon-y notes with a lightly sweet aroma for a refreshing, summertime sip. A portion of proceeds from each 4-pack will benefit The Angel Fund. Summer Beer will be available in late April in retailers across New England and other markets where Harpoon is sold.

“Last year, our employee owners re-imagined this race so that our friends and family across 42 states and 9 countries could safely come together to run – despite the challenges of COVID-19 – in support of The Angel Fund. This year, we wanted to also give the fans at home a way to help support the cause by bringing back one of our all-time favorite Harpoon seasonals to support a cause we’ve cared about for two decades and counting,” said Dan Kenary, CEO and co-founder Harpoon Brewery.

About the Harpoon Brewery

The Harpoon Brewery was founded in 1986 by beer lovers who wanted more and better beer options. When the Brewery was founded, Harpoon was issued Brewing Permit #001 by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, since it was the first to brew commercially in Boston after a dormant period of about 25 years. Since then, it has expanded to a second brewery in Windsor, VT. Harpoon’s line of craft beer features its award-winning IPA and seasonal beers, along with special limited releases. In 2014, Harpoon became an employee-owned company.
