Winchendon, MA to soon have Brewery & Tap Room

PRESS RELEASE December 15, 2020 (Winchendon, MA) – On Monday, December 14th the Board of Selectmen in Winchendon, MA approved a request for purchase of the town owned property at 4 Summer Drive for the purpose of redevelopment by Bull Spit Brewing Company.

“We are expanding our brand to the Winchendon community,” said Keith P. Kopley, President at Bull Spit Brewing Company on Kalon Farm.

Bull Spit Brewing Company recently purchased the property at 15 Summer Drive in Winchendon, MA and was awarded the property at 4 Summer Drive last evening with a unanimous vote from the Towns Select board. Kopley and Brewery Staff had been working with Town Manager Keith Hickey and Development Director Tracy Murphy on the acquisition of the land. “The Town has been very receptive of our vision and is willing to work with us to get the property at 4 Summer Drive developed within our very tight timeframe.” Explained Kopley.

“We are going to build a production facility, indoor tap room and an outdoor hospitality space at this location with hopes to have the outdoor area ready and open by early Summer of 2021” said Kopley.

Current brewery operations are located in Lancaster at the Kalon Farm property. They have a 7 Barrel Brew System there that has started to see the stress of keeping up with production needs. The new location in Winchendon will house a 15 Barrel Brew System along with a 3 Barrel Distillery. “We plan on making the Winchendon location Bull Spit’s primary brewing facility and will also responsibly expand into contract brewing” explained Kopley.

“The Distillery side of the business is new and is still in the early planning phases” says Kopley. Kopley also operates a winery under the business name Hillside Cellars. Kopley explained that his family had been making wine long before the brewery came to be.

Bull Spit Brewing also privately purchased the adjoining property at 15 Summer Drive which formerly housed GOODSPEED MACHINE SHOP. “This building has an enormous amount of historical value in this community and our plan is to preserve as much of that as we can through our needs of the space.” said Kopley. “The front of the building was originally designed for the machine shop administrative offices and we plan on utilizing it for the same. The remainder of the facility will be secured and renovated for future use. One of the outbuildings will be renovated and turned into our Kalon Farm Country store with expanded options such as fresh roasted coffee and possible WIFI Café” explained Kopley. Currently Kalon Farm operates two country stores in Lancaster and Ashburnham that focuses on selling the farms Grass Fed Meats along with a line of custom grocery items. “Similar to the distillery, these ideas are still in the early stages of planning and logistics, our main focus at this point is the new brew house and hospitality spaces.” said Kopley.

“We have a few next step type items to follow up with on the Town side, but renovations will start very soon in order for us to meet our timelines.” said Kopley.
