Not many foods were funkier than a creation that Against the Grain’s Jesse Valenciana was subjected to: his mom’s take on a Hawaiian salad. A sweet, fruity, creamy concoction that was a hit at every party. Rumor has it that a hit to the head by a vindictive manway jarred open a flavor time capsule in Jesse’s brain, so when he and the the Lord Hobo brewers were discussing ideas for their collab beer, the memories of his mom, Alicia’s, Party Salad came flooding back and an IPA was born. Ma’s Party salad is a fun and funky IPA with lactose and a cornucopia of fruit flavors. One sip and you’re transported back to a time when Pontiac Fieros were a status symbol and creepy mustaches were for dads, not hipsters.
